Grassroots Football resuming from 29th March!

The UK Government’s roadmap for easing lockdown restrictions, gave the ‘greenlight’ for the safe return of grassroots football for both adults and children from 29th March 2021.

The FA have extended the current season until the end of June, to give Leagues the additional time and flexibility to complete their fixtures. Each League will make their own decisions on how best to complete the season.

The Men’s Saturday Seniors will return to action from the 3rd April, playing in a mini cup tournament likely to last until the end of May. The tournament will consist of four Groups of 4 teams, with the winners of each Group going through to semi-finals and then a final. The Herts Senior County League has been made null and void for the season.

In terms of Youth Teams, The Watford Friendly League is restarting from Sunday 4th April running through to Sunday 30th May. Games for the U7,U8, U9, U10 and U11’s will take place on Sunday’s ONLY. For the U12, U13, U14, U15, U16 and U18’s there will be Sunday games, many scheduled as “double headers” taking the form of two successive games. In the double headers the U12’s will play 20 minutes each way, U13’s and U14’s, 22.5 minutes each way, U15’s and U16’s, 25 minutes each way and U18’s 30 minutes each way. There will be a break of 15 minutes between each game. Mid-Week games will also be scheduled where feasible for U12, U13, U14, U15, U16 and U18’s with kick off times between 6.00 p.m. – 6.30 p.m.

The West Herts Youth League will be restarting from 11th April with friendlies and Leagues until the end of May. The Hertfordshire Girls Football Partnership League, season has been made null and void, but are likely to be running a small cup competition from 10th April.

Spectator attendance at games will follow the latest Government and FA Guidelines and Rules around Covid, with no mass attendance at games allowed until the 12th April at the earliest. Please check with your Team Manager, the Club or the League's website before planning to attend and watch games.

Spectators will not be permitted at sporting events taking place on private land at Step 1b of the Governments lockdown easing plan, with the exception of adults only where they are needed to supervise under-18s that they have a responsibility for or providing care or assistance to a person with disabilities participating in an organised sporting event or activity. These adults should maintain social distance and not mix with other households. This does not prevent people from viewing recreational or organised sport that is taking place in a public space (e.g. a park) at Step 1b or Step 2, in groups of up to 6 people or 2 households.
